After 3 hard weeks in which I also worked a full time job, and moved I have finally finished www.thepurplefeather.com
The project started as an update to the old static page that was more of an online store than a place for people to find information about the cafe. It was my mission to update the entire page into something that would really show off The Purple Feather for what it is: an elegant and fun place to visit (not to mention all the amazing sweets to try.) it quickly became a much bigger project when my idea of using chocolate.com as a web store fell apart when I found out that they wanted 35% of all sales for hosting the store.Yeah no go. that meant that an entire online store had to be built. I went with a Paypal store because they give you the buttons and you supply the rest.
I started form the ground up first shooting lots of pictures and generating content most of the writing (all the good bits any way) are thanks to Hillary Chapin-Bishop. I then went onto Paypal and and created all the buttons that the store would need.
most of the pages are coded in HTML and CSS, but a chose to convert them all to PHP later in the game so that I could more easily make changes to all the pages, as well as add the potential for a mobile version of the site (coming soon i hope,) and a blog for the news page (also not yet active.)
I hooked up all the pages with Google analytics to keep track of the site usage and since The Purple Feather uses Google apps for their mail, docs, and calenders I embedded a Calender then can easily update with events.
If you are reading this and you check out the Purple Feather Website I would love to get some feed back from people about the usability of the site.
P.s. I have to say I never really got the use of the <div> tag until this project, but I don’t know how I would have built this site without it. I love you <div>.
